Everyone else was doing it

Last seen on [livejournal.com profile] arctic_grey's lj, so I guess I stole it from her. Or my entire flist, however you want to see it. :) Trope/Genre/Feature meme! Let's go!

Creature Fics: Sure? It doesn't really do anything for me (I wasn't even into the whole oooh-vampire-sexy thing when I was in Buffy) but I don't mind it. Superstrength and enhanced senses often hot sex make in my experience. :)

Animagus:. Um. As a story-device, yes. I generally love stories where a character has two sides to their personality. As a kink, definitely not. Hits my beastiality squick big time. No having sex with people in animal form. This goes for warewolves too.

Mpreg: I won't say HELL NO, because I have read three whole fics where I didn't hate it (well, I didn't like the actual pregnancy part in more than one of them, but the overall story was compelling enough to overcome that for me), but as a general rule, I stay away from it. To me, this trope tends to bring out lots of unattractive stereotypes and a hefty dose of heteronormativity and sexism. Also, people being hormonal bitches are not cute. Neither is barfing. lol.

Slave: If done well, not taken too far and existing outside of a couples context. I like the kind of fics where two (or more) slave characters bond in captivity and help each other survive. Slaves in a D/s context are not my cup of tea. (Though, strangely enough, I really like the character-A-buys-a-slave-and-they-fall-in-love subtrope. Without the D/s. And no non-con, please).

BDSM, S&M: Sure. I'm not really into pain play, but I've read a lot of hot BDSM fics with really great dynamics. So yeah.

Age difference: I was brought up on historical romance novels. Things like 16/33 don't phase me at all. :)

Blood-Play: Not my thing.

Under-age (chan): This is a bit tricky, because where I'm from, age of consent is 15, so everything above that doesn't even register as under-age when I read. As long as the relationship is equal and everyone involved has reached puberty, I'm totally fine with this.

Cross-dressing/Gender bender: Not my kink, but can be very hot when it's clearly the characters' kink and it's written well.

Dubious-consent: In the context of sexpollen, hate-sex ("I hate you/Well, I hate you more/*jump each other*") or drunkenness, I'm all for it. It needs to be clear from the narrative that both characters really want it though. Scenarios where character A forces him/herself on character B and character B really doesn't want it but somehow ends up loving it anyway because character A's sex skillz are just that awesome hits my squick like not much else. Really, really hate that.

Non-con: Big, fat no.

Incest: Sure. If done well, this is actually one of my kinks. It needs to be really screwed up and intricate to really work for me, though. :)

Threesome/more-some/gang-bang: TOTALLY AWESOME

Death: If it has a point and isn't just used as a tear-jerker, sure.

Water-sports/scat: HELL NO.

Crossovers: Always and forever. There are few things I love as much as a well done crossover.

Unhappy/wide open endings: Yes, as long as there's a resolution to the story. I am not a fan of stories that build for 30K words and then just drop everything mid-story and call it an open ending. Story arc needs to be complete.

Infidelity: Do not have a problem with this. Would like to see more stories where it's handled in the context of an honest, well-functioning relationship, though. I.e. essentially stories that deal with polyamorous characters in monogamous relationships and how they handle attraction/feelings that develop for other people while staying committed to their relationship. If someone knows of a story that does that, please, please send it my way. :)

Self-harming/Attempted suicide: Attempted suicide/physical self-harm, no. Don't like that in the least. Mental/Emotional self-harm (e.g. addictions, unsafe sex, other types of self-destructive behaviour) I often find really compelling, though. If done well and the behaviour in question a) has a point in the story and b) works for that character. (Ryan Ross, I'm looking at you. :))

Rimming: Sure.

Felching: Ditto.

Fisting: Sometimes. I like the intensity it brings to a story when done right.

Addictions/Disorders: See "self-harm".

Torture/Violence: No.

Toys: Definitely! :D

Uniforms (school girl, nurse, military uniforms etc.): Indifferent.

Double penetration: Yes. :D Even more so in a het context, which is probably the only time I prefer het porn to slash. :)

Anal (het, gay and/or lesbian): If I had a problem with this, I would definitely be in the wrong fandom. lol.

Deep-throating: Definitely yes. As long as the one doing it enjoys it as much as the one getting head.

Boot worship, foot fetish: Nope. Do not get this one.

Chains, shackles, collars, handcuffs, and other means to restrain a character: Totally. Consensual bondage = HAWT.

Blindfolds: Another big yes.

Certain places such as dungeons, prison cells, interrogation room, offices (add your own if you have one I didn't mention): Same as crossdressing, really. If it's a kink for the characters and that shows, I'll enjoy it, but it doesn't do anything for me on its own.

Mind games/mind fuck (you know, that nice psychological approach to bend a character to one's will and/or break them): In the context of fantasy exploration/role-playing within a SSC relationship, this can be very hot. Otherwise, HELL NO. This hits my dub-con-that-really-should-be-labelled-non-con WAY too hard.

Food play/sploshing: Sure. That can be fun.

Gore/guro: Never.

Fight for dominance: YES PLEASE \o/

Breath play/asphyxiation: Not a kink, but I've read som amazingly hot stories that use this. Trust is a huge kink for me, and breath play is pretty much the epitome of trust, so, yes. For sure.

Hair-pulling/biting/scratching/bruising: Rough sex ftw! (As long as it doesn't get too painful)

Gun play/knife play/wand play (knife play does not have to include cutting someone, and you can add some other inanimate object to the list, if you have one!): I never thought I'd like this, but then I read this adam/kris domestic knife-play story of pure adorable and was forced to change my mind.

Drugs or intoxication: Yes, yes, yes. As long as, if there's sex, it's clear from the narrative that both/all parties want to have it.

Language kink (accents etc.): ? Not really. Plus, I don't like written accents. So mostly, I'd find it annoying, I think.

Squick fics (aka fics that are meant to squick the hell out of you): NO. WHY WOULD YOU EVEN WRITE THAT?

Have to get married!: FAVOURITE!!! I love this trope so much. Nothing like an arranged marriage to force people to spend time together and realise that they're utterly perfect for each other. LOVE.

Soul- (life-, heart-, force-, marriage-, wizard-, etc.) bonds: A million times, yes. (See "have to get married")

Hurt/comfort: If done well, totally.

Kid!fic: Completely depends on the story. I've read everything from making heart-eyes at the screen to wantin to barf from the sickly sweetness in this genre. :)

Time travel: A GAZILLION TRILLION TIMES YES! FAVOURITE TROPE EVER.

AUs: Big, huge yes. Especially the ones where a character is thrown into a mirror image of their own world that in some key way is very different from their own. Also, I love all sorts of college, movie, alternate profession aus. Basically aus in general. GO AUs! \o/

Amnesia: If done right, this is another huge favourite. If not, it can be really, spectacularly bad.

Undercover!gay/Have to pretend to be a couple: YES YES YES! Another super favourite. (See "have to get married" again. :))

Redeemed!evil character: If done right and the character is not magically transformed by The Power of Love (or, even worse, by The Magical Sex God Skillz of the hero/heroine). A character that really gets a chance to change and grow, and by that redeem themselves is a giant kink of mine, though.
