I'm in Chicago with [livejournal.com profile] intricate_life and [livejournal.com profile] fannyt. It is generally made of awesome. Except tonight, it managed to quite effectively kill two fandom characters as far as I'm concerned. Or, kill one, change another, rather. Long story short, we went to see an acoustic set with Jon and William Beckett (+ some other people). Opening act was pretty great. Very much liked them + their drummer really went all out. Always appreciate that. :) Then came Jon. And put me to sleep. Twice. He looked pretty hot, which, sadly, is the only positive thing I can say about his set. Music was beyond boring, except for two Young Veins songs, which merely fell flat due to lack of a band. Not only boring, but depressing as hell and performed with what I'd like to describe as negative stage presence. Or maybe that's a bit harsh. Zero stage presence maybe. Basically, he reminded me forcefully of some of the guys in the art program in high school who thought they were ironic and deep and who we were all forced to sit and listen to during end-of-year ceremonies. And this is all a bit problematic because while I never had much interest in Jon as a fictional character and was quite happy to just go along with the flip flop-wearing mellow dude for writing purposes, I now feel mostly "meh". And since fictional!Jon barely has any depth to start with (in my experience with reading and writing him), this feels pretty fatal to my ability to write him. Which sucks. Have to figure out how I'm going to work around that for CSI. *sigh*

The other thing was William Beckett, who came on stage looking like the spitting image of a young Robert Sean Leonard and proceded to rocking his set with humour and lots of boyish charm. Which was very good and attractive, but very, very far from the fictional character known as slutty!Bill that we (I) all know and love. Since I don't really write fictional!Beckett in any other sense than as a fringe character when I need someone a) slutty b) slightly disturbing c) made of awesome, I think the two will be able to co-exist in my brain just fine, though.

God, fandom does such weird things in your brain sometimes. *shakes head*
Right. Sleep. Good idea. :)

Due to a fortunate twist of fate, the two meet again as Brendon is running away to escape an undesirable match his parents have made for him, and Spencer manages to convince him that the two of them should marry instead.

Okay, so out of the five remaining BBB summaries, I've completed the amputation!fic, signed up for western!fic and [livejournal.com profile] salire has promised to do the MCR!gangbang. That means there are TWO tiny little fics left. TWO of them. Come on, isn't there anyone who isn't violently allergic to AAG out there who could take on what looks to be a very cute romcom Brencer with hollywood!Spencer/co-star!Brendon? Or who'd consider doing the abortion/dysmorphia!rywalk for the greater good?

I guess some of you are wondering why I'm pushing this, seeing as I have nothing to do with running BBB. I know some of you don't want to sign up because you don't think you're good enough, or don't want to pick certain fics because they will most likely be a very painful read. And I know some of you think I'm a bit crazy putting myself through reading 50 pages of rape!fic (ah, good times) when non-con makes me violently uncomfortable.

But the thing is, BBB is the biggest bandom event of the year, and has a much broader group of people writing than any other exchange/event. The lack of quality control means there is everything from very good to very bad, sure, and that causes a gazillion problems every year. But it also means that people who don't participate in other events participate in BBB, and sometimes there are hidden gems. Like last year, when I found one of the best Ryden fics I've ever read in the pile of left-over summaries for art that nobody wanted.

I'd like to think BBB could offer the same thing to artists. To be a place where artists can try new things and learn and, hopefully, make someone happy in the process. 95% of the fic isn't perfect, so why does the art need to be? Let's keep it about trying and being creative and making each other happy. Because I bet that 99% of all writers would be a hell of a lot happier getting art from someone who didn't have the time, tools or experience to make it 100% perfect than being the only one not picked in a group of 66 people.

So please imagine yourself being that last person, and compare it to the feeling of getting art for your fic, even if it's not exactly what you hoped it would be. And if you think the first option is worse, please, please go sign up and help me finish this off. ♥

Only FIVE summaries left for doing art for BBB. Come on, people, we can do it!

I'll take amputee!Ryan if someone takes gangbang!MCR. :)

There are still 12 unclaimed summaries over att [livejournal.com profile] bbbartists for BBB wave one. Sign-ups are still open, so please head over there and make someone's day. Getting art for your BBB is awesome, and it would be such a shame if some people didn't get any. (Not to mention how awesome it would be if we managed to open the list up for double claiming like we did last year :))

Please sign up and claim a story. ♥

[livejournal.com profile] intricate_life sent over the M&G pictures from our UK mini-tour, and one of them in particular simply needs to be posted. And have a poll added, because polls are fun and there are far too few of them centered around how nice the guys look from behind. Heh. Think you can pick out Brendon's ass in a lineup with your eyes closed? Here's your chance to prove it. :D

ETA: Also, another thing I meant to post about the shows, re: the whole "rumour of us/room where I'm blessed" debate for Hurricane. Brendon used both at the shows we were at. Birmingham and London, he sang "rumour of us" (which is my favourite, heh); Glasgow, he sang "room where I'm blessed" (extremely clearly too, he even added some sign-of-the-cross choreo to drive the point home, lol). At Glasgow, there were a couple of girls in the centre with a huge "Ryden exists, just admit it" sign (*headdesk*). No such things at the other two shows. Significant? Please discuss. :D

But now, on to important stuffs.

Home again after travelling around the UK with [livejournal.com profile] intricate_life for almost a week. Saw three shows, got two M&Gs, met some awesome, awesome people and decided Zack is my hero. Safe to say, this is going to be long and flaily. :) )

BBB co-write is finished! *dances around* CSI BBB will probably have to wait for wave two though. Which is good, 'cause then I'll have a project later this spring. Also, I'm looking forward to starting the artwork for the most awesome and adorable crossover sequel ever. Totally excited.

Brencer love at first sight. It's canon. Brendon and Spencer just told me so. (around 7:30) :D

My writing is a bit stuck at the moment, so I decided to make some lyrics-inspired asofterworld comics for the Album Anticipation Challenge over at [livejournal.com profile] rydenrevival. Go check it out, and don't miss the other stuff posted. There are colour-coded sex unicorns, and early-day touring angst, and this story about sailing by fannyt that is the loveliest thing I've read in forever

Also, big thanks to [livejournal.com profile] ivesia19 for organising the event and being generally awesome. :)
