2010 Recap

New year. Writing-wise, it's been a pretty slow one compared to last year. Then again, last year was extremely productive (26 stories, 176 205 words).

This year, the total is 9 stories and 41 155 words. It's been a busier year, for sure. On the upside though, that total doesn't include two longer stories that I wrote in the fall that haven't posted yet (one for [livejournal.com profile] bandomstuffsit, which is secret for another week, and one that's currently with my beta). And then there's always the 100 000+ words of CSI AU fic spread out over three or four different stories that I really need to give myself a kick in the ass about and finish sometime before the second coming rolls around. (Cheerleading anyone? Someone who wants to wave pom-poms and brainstorm with me back and forth over email? I could really use one of those on that project. Meh.)

Stories I did manage to finish and post in 2010 (in order of posting) )

On a RL level, 2010 will probably be remembered as The Year of Moving And Renovating. We bought a new apartment that was a bit of a fixer-upper (meaning nothing had been done on it since the 50s) and lived with spatulas and paint brushes in our hands for six months. Not fun. Especially since we had to live in the middle of the chaos for two of those months.

High points of the year were definitely fandom-related. Having [livejournal.com profile] moku_youbi and Muse come visit in the spring, going to see [livejournal.com profile] behindthec in the summer and forming a little bandom unit at home with [livejournal.com profile] fannyt and [livejournal.com profile] intricate_life, complete with late nights, writing sessions and lots and lots of wine. And in addition, there's the chat sessions and IMs and emails, not to mention all the fics and recs and general flail that have taken place. Fandom has definitely kept me sane this year. If I could, I'd send each and every one of you a pony. ♥

Things I'm looking forward to in 2011:

1) Not renovating. \o/
2) Chilling out at new awesome job and not be stressed all the time.
3) Hopefully going back to the US to visit awesome fandom friends
4) Friends and fic and flail (hopefully with wine added to the mix)
5) Panic putting out their new album. And going on tour somewhere I can see them *crosses fingers*
6) Hanging out on my couch and enjoying the extreme comfort of maternity clothes without the downside of being pregnant. *win*

Happy New Year, everyone.
*smooches*

Ooof. Today is a tired day. Which may have something to do with the fact that my birthday party was yesterday and didn't end until fairly late this morning. Lots of people, yummy cake and awesome group singing at the piano. I'll definitely call it a win. Started today with having breakfast with [livejournal.com profile] intricate_life and watching Merlin. I feel like my opinions about last night's episode can be accurately summarised by today's icon. More Morgause always, please. :D

The next part of this update is long, so under a cut it goes.

In which RL is trying to kick my ass and I go on an epic quest to find a pair of new pants. )

Happy Sunday, everyone!

*sigh*

Result of yesterday's elections to parliament: the extreme right party over here (which politically is probably somewhere to the left of the US democrats, only with more racism mixed in) got 5,7%, which not only gives them seats in the government and stops the winning coalition from having their own majority but actually makes them bigger than both the Christian Democrats (whose decline I approve of since they are the only party left that are opposed to equal rights for gay people) and the Left Wing Party (former Communist Party--I approve of their decline as well). I am suitably ashamed of my country's stupidity right now. *sigh*

I'm back! (RL stuff about trip to Russia here) )

In other, more fannish news, my BBB is posting tomorrow! I'm excited. (Anyone who has any recs for other BBBs that have posted in the past week? I need to catch up. :))

Also, I have this new, pretty ridiculous plot bunny for a How To Lose A Guy In Ten Days AU (which might originally be [livejournal.com profile] reni_days's bunny, or one that we flailed over together a long while back, lol) where Brendon is the How To-guy at a gay male version of Cosmo (working with Ryan (fashion and trends) and Pete (who keeps getting dumped by his boyfriends after a week and can't figure out what he's doing wrong)) and Spencer is the star advertiser at Firm Something who is about to lose a huge account for a company specialising in luxury gay lifestyle products (no idea exactly what that means yet) to Bill and Gabe (aka the superduo) because, apparently, they have convinced Spencer's boss that a straight man such as Spencer could never know gay men well enough to worm his way into their hearts and wallets with a campaign. (All of which naturally leads to Spencer insisting that he totally knows what gay guys want and is tricked into a bet where he's to make a guy fall in love with him in ten days or Bill and Gabe gets the account. Enter Brendon, out on assignment to find a guy and drive him away in the same amount of time for an upbeat article. And then, well, you've seen the film. :DDD)

Or so the old Greek myth claims. Anyway, it seems pretty accurate from where I'm standing.

Easter is here, meaning a few days off. I'm hugely grateful for them, because the last couple of weeks have been more than crazy. I'd insert a long rant about school and work here, but even I don't want to hear it, so I'm sparing you as well. :) Good news: me and Eric bought a new apartment. It has three bedrooms (the one we live in now has one) which will mean both a place to put annoying family members guests AND a playroom for all our nerdy interests, i.e. a place where I can keep all my sewing stuff and Eric can build new computers in his spare time.

So that's making me very happy. Even more so because my horrible, evil ex-job actually allowed me to save up some money so that we'll be able to get other people to fix it up for us. Which is a very good thing since trying to paint walls together leads to relationship WWII where we are concerned. And celebrating the new apartment with a divorce would be very crappy. :)

In other good news (I hope), I have actually been writing a little today. It's not much, but I mostly finished chapter 2 of Nightingale (In Berkley Square), aka the Ryden mirror to CSI-verse. Seeing as the whole half that is the Ryden backstory is already finished, it's not a terrible accomplishment, but being the first things I've written on the monster in almost two weeks, it's a huge relief. I'm hoping to get chapter three done tomorrow. Then chapter four before my break is over. And then hopefully the rest will magically appear before the BBB deadline on the 30th.

So cross your fingers, okay? I feel like I could use all the luck I could get.
Love you guys. ♥

Milestone!

My big project in school is finished and posted. *waves happy flag*

(can be seen here if anyone's interested)

Next step: catching up on fic. Any recs for really good stuff? (Especially Ryden and Arthur/Merlin? I have a craving for both :))

[livejournal.com profile] panicmydear found my favourite teen movie on YouTube! With English subtitles! \o/

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zlkhZwZ0c8g

Fucking Åmål (Show Me Love in English)
Agnes is 16, unpopular and in love with Elin, who's 14 and the hottest thing in school. Elin hates living in Åmål, a town so boring that when new things get popular, they're already on the "outdated trend" list in the rest of the world.

I love pretty much everything about this movie. The characters are wonderful (including the supporting cast. Agnes's dad in particular just makes me go <3333 with how much of a typical Swedish dad he is), the script is really good (subtitles are a little weirdly translated sometimes, but overall, they totally work) and this movie is basically my teen years put on film (well, not really mine, because I was a very well-behaved teen who stayed at home reading books and went to ping-pong nights at the local church, but other than that :)). On top of that, it's really funny and the ending always makes me go \o/.

See it. :)

Two memes! Both from [livejournal.com profile] moku_youbi

Dear [livejournal.com profile] chicken_cookie,

I don't really know how to tell you this, but I'm in love with your sister. I think I realised it when I quoted Santa in your apartment when I saw you pour syrup on my mustard soufflé. I'm sure you're middle-class enough to understand that Extreme Home Makeover sucks. I'm returning the pictures from LA to you, but I'll keep your suicide note as a memory. You should also know that I always wanted to break senility.

Your everlasting enemy

How to play

And the second one:

- List 7 habits/quirks/facts.
- Tag 7 people to do the same.
- Don't tag the person who tagged you or say that you tag 'whoever wants to do it'.

Tagging: [livejournal.com profile] fannyt, [livejournal.com profile] intricate_life, [livejournal.com profile] salire, [livejournal.com profile] behindthec, [livejournal.com profile] chicken_cookie, [livejournal.com profile] kartyvengence, [livejournal.com profile] artic_grey (unless you've already been tagged by other people)

I know there are a few of you out there who are going to the London show tomorrow, so if you feel like meeting up with me, [livejournal.com profile] fannyt and [livejournal.com profile] intricate_life before the show, look for a very tall girl with dark hair and probably a red/black checkered hoodie dress accompanied by two much shorter redheads. We'll all be talking in some weird language as well, so pretty easy to spot, I think. Come say hi. We'd love to meet you. :)

Just booked tickets to go see Cobra in London on Feb 10. With [livejournal.com profile] intricate_life and [livejournal.com profile] fannyt!!! SO EXCITED!!! Anyone else who's going to be there? And if so, want to meet up for fangirly hangouts and/or beer?

I hate being sick. Being sick blows. [insert pun here, it's possible I've read a few too many transcripts of CSI in the last couple of days.] I have the plague. My head is all stuffy, my throat is all swollen, and I'm generally cranky and miserable. Blergh. Mainly been reading, sleeping and watching movies today, which has lead to the following realisations:

How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days needs to be revamped into a Brencer AU. Please, Brencer writers? Please, please, pretty please? (I know [livejournal.com profile] reni_days already posted this, but she's right, you guys! This totally needs to happen. With Pete as Michelle. And Patrick the guy who dumps her but comes back at the end.)

The Proposal equally needs to be revamped: into a Joncer AU. Possibly a Brencer, Ryden or Spyro one would work as well, but Jon/Spencer would be kind of epically perfect. With Brendon as the pretty, sweet ex-girlfriend and Gabe as Ramon the stripper. Please?

*crossing fingers while continuing to die of the plague*

p.s. CSI-verse is now possibly 4 parts = three murder mirrors and a Ryan/Spencer prequel. Feels pretty good. Word count is getting scary though.

So, my day was basically for shits. I'm bleeding to death. Always fun. Looking forward to another week of doing that.

On the other hand, Patrick Stump saying "unscathed" made my mood go up one million points, so I guess things could be worse. Or Patrick is just magic, which is what Pete I've been claiming all along.

It is quite possible that "unscathed" is now my favourite word. Try it out. All soft and sexy and shit. I want fic where people say "unscathed".

Spent my morning stalking [livejournal.com profile] emilyray's journal, because she made the epic mistake of friending me back and now I'm never letting go EVER because she writes about CLASSIC LITERATURE and GREEK GENERALS BEING SNEAKY AND BACK-STABBING and LATIN. ♥__♥ !!!

In her archives of PURE AWESOME, I found this: http://gawker.com/5185909/the-facebook-aeneid
Clearly, I need to get this girl to marry me.

Other fun stuff found stalking around people's journals this morning:
From [livejournal.com profile] quixoticfangirl, in which Patrick is just to die for.
If someone wanted to give me a Patrick for Christmas, that would be cool. Just saying.

I really want to go to the Blink/FOB/Panic concert in Chicago in August. Problem is, I know absolutely nothing about the city and could really need some inside info. Live in Chicago/know your way around? Please help? Where are good (and cheap) places to stay? How do you get around? Where do you want to go? What so see and so on?

I will seriously love you guys forever if anyone could give me some tips on this.
redorchids: (Default)
What is with me and the FOB lyrics these days? It's like someone put one of those weird-ass Harry Potter spells on me that leave you speaking only in limericks. The Peterick Curse. Will have you drooling over short singers and speaking in lyrics only. Patricio! would be the incantation, I think.

Hey, if JKR can suck at Latin AND her own canon, so can I. lol.

Speaking of... if you haven't yet experienced the wonders of the [livejournal.com profile] deadlyhollow book 7 sporking community, go there now. I have a huge crush on this site. It's so sarcastic. And the best thing about it is that everything they say is TOTALLY VALID.

Go read. Especially the post about "The Sacking of Severus Snape," where someone goes through JKR's timelines and deduces that it took Voldemort about 8 hours to check on two Horcruxes because of the hot, naked chicks gay dudes making out at the entrance of the creepy cave with the green lake in it.

In other news, I am helping Colin finish up PCCF, and it's going to be epic. The vid is turning out great too, so I'm pretty happy. Tomorrow is my last day at my hellish job, and after that, it will be hard-core fanfiction time for at least a week. God, yes. :-)

Also, I'm crashing down from having got nearly no sleep last night, but hey, work is ALMOST over. I'll get to sleep soon enough.

There are few things in the world that make me genuinely pissed off and depressed all at once. Homophobia and other kinds of bigotry is one. Misguided feminism is another.

A while back, me and my guy went to the store and got one copy of a guy magazine (lots of naked chicks, equivalent of Penthouse/Playboy) and one copy of Cosmo. We then compared and contrasted how women were portrayed in them.

The results were frightenly similar, except Cosmo was worse, and I don't understand why the female population as large is not getting this.

Being worth just as much as someone will pay for you (in time and attention) or that you will pay for a purse is not being a strong, independent woman. Building your self esteem on how other people see you ("X said I was beautiful today, now I'm all happy again") is NOT healthy! Valuing your talents and ideas just as high as other people value them is not believing in yourself. Looking down on/Trashing girls who fail to conform (who break the rules in the giant pink rule book) is putting back equality another 50 years.

I've seen a lot of Keltie-praising comments since she and Ryan broke up, and it friggin' scares me. Keltie is not a role model. Are you even reading what she writes? There is enough pain, insecurity and desperation in there to flood a country. She's trapped in the Cosmo lie, just like a lot of the female population, and it makes me really sad, because she, like the rest of us, wouldn't have to be. Stop making your own prisons. Grow some balls. Watch Moulin Rouge again and see Satine for what she is--trapped and insecure, just looking for someone to save her. And it depresses me like nothing else when people look at that think that they aren't worth more, that that's the ideal, how things are supposed to be.

Cosmopolitan is not your friend. Next time you're picking one up, take a Penthouse instead. It will say the same thing, but at least, it will be honest with you.

/end rant

Clothes, check. Concert tickets, check. Passport, check. Comfy shoes to stand in line in, check!

London, you guys! Fall Out Boy in London! Just think, in something like 24 hours, I will no longer be a concert virgin. \o/ (And I get to meet up with my friend Chris and go lindy-hopping on Saturday as well, so double the fun!)

I am so excited it's ridiculous. I don't know how I'll be able to sleep tonight so I'll probably end up plotting the sexy shower scene I've decided really needs to go into my BBB. There's just not enough naked, wet patrick the way it stands now.

Other fun thing: we're doing this folk-inspired-kind-of-half-way-to-jazz type song in my choir, and the lyrics go something like this:

Oh, oh, if only it were night
And all the boys were sitting in bed
And I could lie there
And not be seen
Oh, oh, if only it were night

To which the logical and completely normal reaction is obviously O____O !!! GSF forever! ♥ !!!!

I mean, obviously.

So now, [livejournal.com profile] fannyt loves and adores hates me for ruining her pretty, rose-coloured, PG-13 world view even more. And neither of us can get through that piece with a straight face anymore. (me from going all swoony from the mental pictures, fannyt for blushing too much, lol)

So, yeah. That was the good evil deed of today. Heh. :-D
